Paul M. Heringer was born January 12, 1920 to Paul and Martha (Klempel) Heringer at the family home eight miles south of Lambert in Dawson County. He attended school first at Round Butte School and later at Lambert Public School.

Paul enlisted in the U. S. Navy on August 3, 1942 and served on the U.S.S. South Dakota until his discharge from the navy on October 18, 1945. While in the service he earned: Good conduct medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon-2 Stars, European-African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Ribbon, and 13 Bronze Stars.

Paul married his sweetheart Helen Knopp on November 23, 1945 at Wibaux, MT. The couple took up farming south of Crane and ranching later at the Dunc Narum ranch east of Lambert. On October 1, 1953, Paul purchased the Liudahl General Merchandise store in Lambert; which after remodeling became their home and post office quarters. In 1959, he purchased the Lambert Co-Op store, and began custom butchering and making a very popular smoked sausage.

Paul was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and dear friend. Paul enjoyed playing checkers by mail and in person with anyone who dared to challenge him. He liked hunting, fishing, and hiking in the mountains. He was also a dedicated Lambert Lion sports fan.
On July 4, 2005, Paul and Helen moved to Sidney, MT. In the months prior to his death at home, he was lovingly cared for by his granddaughter Sarah Heringer and his wife. Sarah’s capable, joyful, and loving care found a very special place in her grandpa’s heart. During this difficult time, he often spoke with gratitude for the blessings God gave him and for the faithfulness of the Lord to him all through his life.

Paul went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Paul is survived by: his wife, Helen Heringer, Sidney; daughter, Rennie (Mike) Sharp, New London, MN; sons, Ron (Sandra) Heringer, Glasgow, Sheldon (Anita) Heringer, Lambert, daughter, Sunetta (Tim) Ellwein, Billings; son, Scott (Christy) Heringer, Costa Rica; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; his sister, Sarah Walker, Hale, MO; numerous nephews and nieces.

• Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 24, from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. and from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Monday, January 25 at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel.
• A family service for Paul Heringer, 90, of Sidney, MT, is 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. A celebration of his life will be held at the Christian Missionary Church in Lambert, MT at a later date.
• A private family interment will be in the Richland Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors by V.F.W. Post #4099.
